Oscar Bluemner: Selections from the Vera Bluemner Kouba Collection, Stetson University, DeLand, Florida

January 16, 2016 – May 22, 2016

Oscar Bluemner, one of America’s most important modernist painters, devoted himself to the new styles of painting he encountered on a trip to Europe in 1912. He portrayed both urban and rural landscapes in bright colors and simplified forms inspired by the European avant garde. This stellar selection of works from the collection of the artist’s daughter Vera follows his transformation from a traditional representational style to modernist abstraction.
