Driven to Paint

Driven to Paint

Instructor: Barry Shapiro

Description:

In this five-week introductory painting class free for Veterans, The Drive to Paint, instructor Barry Shapiro will guide students through beginner painting principles utilizing the exhibition, Rolling Sculpture: Streamlined Art Deco Automobiles and Motorcycles, a selection of automobiles and motorcycles from the Art Deco era. Originating in the 1920s in Europe and disseminating to the United State in the 1930s, Art Deco featured modern styles with fine craftsmanship and rich materials imbued with technological industrial design to create a streamlined, futuristic look. Building off these Art Deco design principles and visits to the galleries, students will learn perspective, shadowing, shading and color mixing as they create thematic projects inspired by Rolling Sculpture. Students will advance their painting technique and learn new techniques as they create weekly studio projects culminating in a final project where students will create and paint a futuristic car design of their own!

Driven to Paint is free for Veterans.
