Impressionist Painting for Veterans

Description: Explore the vibrant world of French Impressionism in this free eight-week painting class exclusively for Veterans! Each class will begin with a visit to the VBMA’s exhibition French Moderns: Monet to Matisse, 1850-1950. Instructor Pearl Lau will guide Veterans to notice techniques and subjects that defined the Impressionist movement, providing a deeper understanding of how these artists depicted everyday life and embraced the outdoors. In the studio, Veterans will develop their own style using a variety of media to recreate the dynamic brushwork and focus on natural light that characterized the Impressionist Movement. Whether capturing the atmosphere of a bustling city or the tranquility of a countryside scene, Veterans will embark on a creative journey that blends historical inspiration with personal expression.
