Exploring creativity is a vital goal of the free Veterans’ Program offered at the Vero Beach Museum of Art. Veterans draw inspiration from instructor-led gallery visits, then head to the studios to try their hand at a variety of artistic techniques. The classes have a critical side benefit: they create community for an important segment of our local residents seeking an outlet.
Veteran Patti Quick, Staff Sergeant, U.S. Air Force (Ret.), was looking for just that. Quick discovered the free Veterans’ classes through VBMA members’ Quarterly publication and promptly signed up. One class turned into quite a few more for her; painting, photography, felting, and pottery. It wasn’t just the hands-on creativity that she craved. “I appreciate having time with other Veterans, as we all start with something in common. I don’t know where I would find this particular community comprised only of Veterans.”
Quick adds, “I look forward to class every week and love the creativity. The classes have become like a family, with everyone encouraging and supporting everyone else.”
In addition to these free classes created specifically for Veterans, VBMA offers Veterans free museum admission every day and a 15% discount on regular studio art classes and workshops.
