X Marks the Spot: The Archaeology of Art History
June 16 @ 9:30 am - 11:30 am
Chris Fasolino, instructor
From lost cities of the ancient world to the shipwrecked galleons on our own Treasure Coast, this course is an adventurous look at archaeology and art history. We begin with ancient Egypt and the riches of the Nile. Then, we will look at Greek pottery with its various styles, followed by an exploration of Asia Minor, home to some of the Wonders of the World. The Roman Mediterranean will be considered, and then we will turn our gaze south to archaeological sites from the Sahara as well as sub-Saharan Africa. Next, we consider the archaeology of South America and explore the lost cities of the Inca in the Andes Mountains, with their treasures of gold, silver, and textile arts. The course will conclude with a look at maritime archaeology, including Vero Beach itself—with the 1715 Plate Fleet and the artifacts salvaged from the Spanish galleons.
