M.C. Escher: Drawing and Illusion

Description:
In this five-week drawing class for Veterans, instructor Barry Shapiro will guide students through drawing principals utilizing artworks from the exhibition, M.C. Escher: Infinite Variations, which include woodcuts, lithographs, drawings, and mezzotints from throughout the artist’s career.
M.C. Escher was a master of technique, design, and illusion. Students will create their own illusory images by examining his artworks in the VBMA’s galleries. The instructor will introduce basic drawing skills, using perspective and Escher’s own theories of design, which combine math, nature, and science.
The VBMA will supply registered Veterans with art supplies and all other class materials.
Schedule:
This five-week class will take place on Mondays from 5:30pm – 8:00pm at the Vero Beach Museum of Art in Studio 2.

Instructor:
Barry Shapiro is a graduate of Pratt Institute (BFA in painting and printmaking) where he studied with internationally renowned artists such as James Grashow, Vasilios Toulis, Rudolph Baranik, and Audrey Flack.
His portraits and abstract landscapes have been featured in multiple exhibitions in the northeast and locally.
