MUSEUM STORIES

April and springtime always make us think of birds. We think it would be fun to take off and fly like a bird! This week we are inspired by Hunt Slonem’s painting Finches for the theme of feathered friends. Check out the fun books and songs we found to help you recreate Museum Stories in your home. Read, sing, waggle, wiggle, flap, chirp and have fun!

Here is a list of books and songs for inspiration:

  • Book: Peek-a-Moo by Marie Torres Cimarusti/ Song “Down on Grandpa’s Farm” by Raffi
  • Book: Make Way for Ducklings by Robert McCloskey / Song: “Six Little Ducks” by Raffi
  • Book: Gossie and Gertie by Olivier Dunrea/ Action Song “All the Little Ducks Go Upside Down”

“All the Little Ducks Go Upside Down”
All the little ducks go upside down,
upside down, upside down,
All the little ducks go upside down
as they dabble at the bottom of the pond.
All their little beaks go snap, snap, snap,
snap, snap, snap,  snap, snap, snap,
All their little beaks go snap, snap, snap,
as they dabble at the bottom of the pond.
All their little tails go wiggle, waggle, wiggle,
wiggle, waggle, wiggle, wiggle, waggle, wiggle,
All their little tails go wiggle, waggle, wiggle,
as they dabble at the bottom of the pond.

You can read along with some of the books on YouTube.

Get ahead with kindergarten readiness: practice numbers and counting, letters, and shapes.

Craft: Use the attached printable to make your own “D” in the shape of a duck. Color with crayons and markers, use scissors to cut out shapes and glue together. Or, use the pattern to trace the shapes on construction paper and then glue the project together. Decorate with feathers, pompoms or any other fun items on hand.
