Art Matters… to our families and our children. The Vero Beach Museum of Art plays a vital role in the life of our community. The Museum provides all of us with a wonderful venue to experience the arts and is the principal source of art education for the children and young adults living in Indian River County. Gifts to the Annual Fund continue to provide essential support for meaningful programs that can change lives.
When Sophie Siegel moved from the New York City area to Vero Beach in 2008 at age 8, the VBMA changed her life. Soon after her family’s arrival in Vero Beach, Sophie signed up for art classes in the Museum Art School. Later she joined the Museum Art Youth Ambassadors taking part in gallery tours and studio activities, and as part of the program, she volunteered as a Summer Art Camp Coordinator. “I tried to ensure that every child enjoyed camp as much as I did,” recalled Sophie. She had been concerned that her new hometown wouldn’t have the kind of cultural resources that were available in the city. In 2012, Sophie authored our Annual Fund letter explaining, “I need not have worried, the VBMA has provided me with many opportunities for artistic inspiration.”
In this year’s Annual Fund letter, Sophie now 21 and a recent graduate from Florida Atlantic University, reflects back on the years she spent at the Museum – lessons learned and memories she still “cherishes every single day.” With VBMA teachers and staff as role models, and the experience gained by exploring all forms of art, the Museum continues to shape her perspective on life.
Sophie considers the Museum “Vero Beach’s most important place.” However the Museum impacts you, your gift of $50, $250, $1,000, or whatever amount is comfortable for you, will make a difference.
