Workshop: How to Look at Contemporary Art

November 16, 2018 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

$45. – $60.

The exhibition Made in Germany: Contemporary Art from the Rubell Family Collection includes some of the most significant German art created over the last 35 years by both experienced and emerging artists. So, what is contemporary art and why is it significant? During this interactive adult workshop, participants will explore contemporary art, gain an understanding of how to view and discuss this kind of art, and create their own work of art inspired by the exhibition. The VBMA’s Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art Danielle Johnson will define what “contemporary art” means and provide a brief art historical overview of the major movements and events leading up to the current period. Then, the VBMA’s Director of Education Sara Klein will take participants into the galleries to facilitate guided looking, visual literacy activities, and a new way to experience art. A Museum Art School faculty member will conclude the workshop in the studio and help participants discover their creative side with an engaging art project.

Light refreshments will be served.

Friday, November 16, 1 – 4 pm
