Painting from a Live Model

Model will be dressed in various cultural costumes, seated on a high chair. Instructor will paint the model in oils, however she is skilled in all media including drawing
and so can coach in any medium. Instructor will demo and circulate throughout each day, paying close attention to the needs of individual artists. Students will learn composition, color mixing, values, how to capture likeness, and mapping out the face and body using various measuring tools and techniques. Several means of transferring image to canvas will be covered, including traditional free hand and size sighting. Also covered will be the quality and care of brushes, paints, painting surfaces and tools, tips and tricks, and framing options. Instructor will demonstrate how to work with and pose a model, and various ways of correcting of mistakes, and that all mistakes are correctable. In addition to the traditional portrait instruction, the instructor will also increase the students’ confidence in the portrait painting process.
