Art & Theater - July 28, 2010

Your day of Art & Theater begins in the morning at the Norton Museum of Art for their summer exhibition, Captivating Characters: Portraits from Rubens to Picasso. No subject has captured the artist's imagination as consistently throughout history as the human face. Whether imagining the features of an historical figure or representing the face of a love one, artists in the Norton Collection, including Gauguin, Renoir, and Soutine, explored portraiture to reveal the many dimensions of human emotion. the exhibitions Beyond the Figure: Absstract Sculpture in the Norton Museum Collection and Dinotopia: The Fantastical Art of James Gurney will also be on display.
Lunch will be at the BB King Blues Club where we will eat "southern style" in an atmosphere that sets the "stage" for our afternoon performance.
What are people saying about the Florida Stage? The Miami Herald reports that the Florida Stage is "as fine a regional theater experience as you can hope to have." The Florida Stage Company will inaugurate their new venue at the Rinker Playhouse with the musical Low Down Dirty Blues. When the crowd goes home for the night, the real show begins at this Blues bar, where musicians gather after hours to swap stories and songs filled with passion and soul, along with innuendo, insinuation and, above all, humor! Featuring the very best of the style made (in)famous by the likes of Mae West, Muddy Waters, Ma Rainey, Sophie Tucker, Howlin' Wolf, Pearl Bailey, and many others, Low Down Dirty Blues isa look at life in a rousing, raucous musical event!
The cost is $200 per person, or $175 with your ASFTA member discount. Don't miss the Society's summer trip! Space is limited, so be sure to reserve your place now.
